Celebrating Father’s Day in the Tri-Valley

Father’s Day is approaching, and while most dads will happily settle for golf balls and grill aprons, there are plenty of fun experiences around the Tri-Valley that you can gift him instead. Whether it’s a massive car show followed by a delicious brunch, a family BBQ at the local lake, or getting in free to the Alameda County Fair, your Dad is going to love what you have in store for him.

Check out 10 special Tri-Valley ways to celebrate Father’s Day with your dad this year below:

1. Golf

The Tri-Valley is one of the most beautiful golfing destinations, and our local courses are in fantastic shape. Visit Calilippe Preserve, The Course at Wente, or Dublin Ranch Golf Course for a great day of golf and pro shop discounts. For those with little ones, Boomers in Livermore will also be hosting a Father's Day Mini Golf Tournament, complete with prizes for those families that out-putt other teams.

2. Car Show

Blackhawk Museum in Danville is hosting a Father's Day Car Show, complete with a brunch by Scot's Catering. Dads are free to bring in their favorite car regardless of make for this special day. The first 100 cars will receive free admission to the Blackhawk Museum and a goodie bag!

3. Get Active

If your dad is the active type - you're in luck. There are plenty of gorgeous recreational spaces perfect for camping, fishing, hiking, kayaking, swimming, or BBQing! To enjoy the day on the water, boat rentals are available at Del Valle Regional Park or Shadow Cliffs Lake. For an awesome day of hiking, check out Mt. Diablo State Park or Pleasanton Ridge Trail.

4. Wine Tasting

There are plenty of ways to celebrate Father's Day in Livermore's Wine Country, but a few wineries have something special in store. For groups of 8+, your family can reserve Rubino Estate Winery's Duck Boat Tour, where participants climb aboard a fully renovated wine-centric WW2 Duck Boat to tour the beautiful estate. Retzlaff Winery will also also be celebrating with fun family competitions, so bring a blanket and picnic on their spacious lawn.

5. Great Grub

There's plenty of great food in the Tri-Valley, but some restaurants are offering dads a special Father's Day experience this year. Blue Agave Club in Pleasanton will offer a special brunch menu including some signature plates, omelets, salads and pastries. Eddie Papa's in Pleasanton will also be cooking up All-American BBQ plates such as Tri-Tip, Texas Brisket and pulled pork sandwiches.

6. County Fair

Dads get in for free this year at the Alameda County Fair! Bring your dad to the fair on Sunday, June 17th before 5pm, and his admission is free. Check out our blog (10 Reasons to Go to the Alameda County Fair) for some fun ideas for what to do once you're there!

7. Go Kart Racing

Umigo, and indoor go-kart race track in Livermore, is offering a free membership for Dads with paying participants, a complimentary family photo, and local beer specials on tap! In between laps check out their arcade, bocce ball court, and RC car track!

8. Bocce Ball

Campo di Bocce in Livermore is a family-fun spot, perfect for grubbing down on some delicious meals and taking the competition to the bocce ball courts. This Father's Day, treat dad to a 3-course meal and a fun afternoon of bocce!

9. Fishing

There are plenty of places to fish in the Tri-Valley, like Del Valle Regional Park or Shadow Cliffs Lake, but this year Castlewood Country Club is hosting a special fishing event just for Father's Day. Bait, donuts, coffee and hot chocolate will be made available to participants of this Father's Day Fishing Derby. Bring family and your own poles, because participants with the smallest and largest fish will be awarded prizes. Afterwards, enjoy a pancake breakfast with dad at the Verdana Lounge.

10. Spirit Run

This year will mark the Pleasanton Rotary Club's final Father's Day Spirit Run. This early morning run in the heart of downtown Pleasanton is a great way to start your day, and proceeds support scholarships for local students in the Tri-Valley area.

Where to Find Gifts

Ditch the "best dad" mugs this year and opt for something that will blow your Dad away. There are plenty of places offering special Father's Day gifts for every type of dad out there. The Nest in Danville (pictured above) has an entire section of neat gifts like insulated Stanley pint glasses, books on golf and fishing, and high-quality beard balm. Barnes & Noble in Dublin is also offering up to 45% off certain gifts in their Father's Day section.
