Tri-Valley Holiday Events Guide

There’s no dashing through the snow in the Tri-Valley, but there is plenty of holiday cheer to partake of. Pick between various holiday performances, a special gift-hunting art fair, wine-fueled tours of the Tri-Valley’s bright lights, and more. 

Annual Holiday Tree Lighting

November, 29th @ 7pm | dublin civic center

Celebrate the start of the holiday season with the traditional lighting of the tree at the Dublin Civic Center.  Enjoy lively seasonal entertainment along with cookies and hot cocoa after the performance.  Also, be on the lookout for a surprise appearance by a very special visitor from the North Pole! Admission is free.

Lantern Light Festival

November, 30th - January 20th | Alameda county fairgrounds

Bring your family to the Lantern Light Festival for a spectacular evening of dazzling lights, colors, shapes, and themes. 
The festival is a celebration of Chinese culture featuring massive handmade lanterns, inspiring performances, and children’s activities. These enormous lanterns stay firmly on the ground. Each Chinese lantern is custom-built by Chinese artisans and typically takes four weeks and a team of seven to complete. Some are over 30 feet high and others are up to 300 feet long. If you enjoy an evening full of festive lights and amazing sights, bring your family to the Lantern Light Festival, a rare opportunity to witness the majestic skill of the world’s best lantern-makers.

Santa's Arrival: Believe in the Magic

Get ready for Santa’s Arrival with this free event that includes street entertainment, horse-drawn carriage rides, live reindeer, a snowfield, crafts and so much more! RSVP on the Livery’s Facebook page for your children to be a VIK (very important kid). Be sure to bring your camera to capture your visit with Santa. Santa will be back every Saturday and Sunday in December until Christmas. For a chance to give back this holiday season, bring canned food to donate to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. Danville Livery is proud to host a safe, family fun event for the community. 

Holiday Sights and Sounds Parade

Livermore Downtown Inc. will host the 23rd annual Holiday Sights & Sounds Parade. Grab an early dinner,
and then huddle around the streets of downtown Livermore for holiday season songs and spectacles. The parade follows First Street from M Street to McLeod Street. At the end of the day of festivities, watch the lighting of the
Christmas Tree at the corner of First Street & Livermore Ave.

A Very Jingletown Christmas

The stage at the Village Theatre & Art Gallery will be jolly with holiday cheer as the Theatre Performance Workshop puts on a performance of “A Very Jingletown Christmas,” written and directed by Jeff Seaberg. Santa, his elves and a variety of familiar North Pole characters help save the show and tell a heart-warming story with holiday songs the whole family will enjoy. This performance is intended for all audiences.

Community Chanukah Celebration

Sunday, december 2nd @ 4pm - 6pm | blackhawk museum, danville

Visit the Blackhawk Plaza for a fun night of Chanukah festivities. There will be a giant menorah lighting, latkes and donuts, face painting, glitter art, and arts & crafts for children. Stick around for the live music performed by Mikey Pauker, who was named by TIME Magazine as one of the 10 Stars of New Jewish Music. 

Chanukah Wonderland & Menorah Lighting

This year, bring your family to the Chabad of the Tri-Valley’s Chunukah Wonderland at the Stoneridge Mall. There will be face painting and arts and crafts stations for children, as well as holiday games, festive dress-up, and plenty of photo opportunities for the whole family. Sing along to holiday songs with live musical performances and entertainment. Join dignitaries and the community for the lighting of the grand 9-ft Menorah at 6:30pm. 

Livermore Shakespeare Festival: A Christmas Memory

Celebrate the season with friends, family or co-workers and Livermore Shakespeare Festival artists as they present a staged reading of classic holiday stories. The Nutcracker

Valley Dance Theatre proudly presents Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker! Valley Dance Theatre brings full-length and repertory classical ballet and contemporary dance productions to the San Francisco East Bay. Every December, the Company presents several full-length performances of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. Last year, the production attracted an audience of more than five thousand. A second major production is staged each season in late Spring.  As the resident ballet company, all performances are held at the Bankhead Theater and are accompanied by the Valley Dance Theatre Pit Orchestra. Costumes are created by professional, award-winning designers.

The Doo Wop Project Christmas Show

Irish Christmas in America

Irish Christmas in America brings together world-class musicians, singers and dancers in an intimate and engaging performance rich in history, humor, and boundless energy. Pensive ballads, lively instrumentals and thrilling Irish dance, plus evocative photographic images, create an enchanting start to the holiday season.This family-friendly performance offers a view into some of the rich historical traditions of the Emerald Isle. The show was originally conceived to share traditional, if sometimes unknown, Irish customs with audiences in a heartfelt demonstration of how music kept early Irish immigrants close to home as they made their way in the new world.

The Muppets Christmas Carol

Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie and the entire cast of the Muppet universe come together to re-tell Charles Dickens’ immortal classic “A Christmas Carol.” Michael Caine, as grouchy Ebenezer Scrooge, is visited by the ghost of his ex-business partner Jacob Marley, and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come. Influenced by what he sees and experiences, Scrooge emerges ready for Christmas Day as a kinder, gentler man. It’s the iconic holiday tale as only the Muppets can tell it!

Reduced Shakespeare Company: The Ultimate Christmas Show

Join the Reduced Shakespeare Company at the Annual Holiday Variety Show and Christmas Pageant at St. Everybody’s Non-Denominational Universalist Church where “all faiths are welcome because we’ll believe anything.” You’ll learn how Santa saved Christmas, cringe at the origin of the term “Nutcracker,” gasp at the hilariously shocking history of our best-loved holiday traditions, and learn wacky new lyrics to favorite carols.
