The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD) operates the Robert Livermore Community Center, which held its grand opening in spring 2005. The center serves as the Livermore area’s recreation destination, located at 4444 East Ave. The complex offers 71,000-square-feet of indoor space with the Community Building and the Recreation Building, plus a 45,000-square-foot Aquatics Center.
The state-of-the-art Recreation Building houses the Elbow Room, drop-in gym activities and preschool. Parents can rent the Fiesta Room, Elbow Room, Cafe Patio, Poppy Room or gymnasium for children’s parties, which can include swimming, dancing or fun in the gym and a room for cake and presents. Themed party packages are available for pirate, princess and “”Amazing Race”” fans. The Recreation Building also features a maple wood sprung-floor studio with ballet bars and mirrored walls for dance and exercise. The gymnasium also hosts adult sports leagues as well as youth sports camps and classes.
The Community Building houses an elegant ballroom, classrooms and meeting rooms to rent for special occasions and conferences. A Senior Services wing offers daily, weekly and special events programs for senior citizens. In the main lobby and in the Senior Vintage Lounge, local organizations may sign up to display their art in the Community Center Gallery.
Behind these attractive buildings, visitors will find the Aquatics Center, featuring 45,000 square feet of pool and deck. There is a 25-yard-by-33-meter pool for recreational and lap swimming, swim lessons, water polo, exercise classes and more. The activity pool, designed for small children younger than 12, has interactive equipment with waterfalls and water canons. A 22-foot-long spiral waterslide is the highlight of summer water activities for kids. The Aquatics Center is a great place to bring the family, especially when trying to beat the heat during summer months.
