When you think of leaf peeping, California isn’t always the first destination that comes to mind. Nonetheless, each fall the Tri-Valley region is home to a surprising explosion of autumnal colors.
Starting late September and running through December, the Tri-Valley’s rolling hills and valleys are home to vibrant hues and fall foliage. Check out these top spots to see fall colors in the Tri-Valley.
Livermore Valley Wine Country
The most abundant fall colors in the Tri-Valley can be found in the Livermore Valley Wine Country, where there are over 50 wineries and several vineyards spread throughout rolling hills and valleys. For an up close and personal view of these fall colors, visit McGrail Vineyards, Murrieta’s Well, Retzlaff Vineyards or Concannon Vineyards.
Del Valle Regional Park covers over 4,300 acres of outdoor recreational space and surrounds a beautiful 5-mile long lake. Not only is a great place to spot fall colors in the Tri-Valley, it’s a wonderful place for wildlife watching, camping, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, and more. Each fall, a multitude of colorful autumnal trees line the 16 miles of shoreline in this park. Explore over 28 miles of trails featuring sweeping views of rolling hills and valleys.
Surround yourself in the Tri-Valley’s fall colors by spending a day in Downtown Pleasanton. This charming and historic stretch surrounding Main Street features original buildings which are now home to various boutique shops, restaurants, and other small businesses. Visit on a Saturday morning to stroll through their locally famous Farmers Market on Angela St.
Iron Horse Trail
The Iron Horse Trail is a mostly shaded, entirely paved recreational trail spanning 32 miles between two counties, connecting 12 cities, and providing easy access to parks, downtown restaurants, and shopping. Known as a year-round hot spot for pedestrians, bicyclists, and equestrians alike, it’s an especially majestic place to take in some of the Tri-Valley’s best displays of its fall colors. Park at the Museum of the San Ramon Valley in Downtown Danville for easy trail access.
Ravenswood Historic Site
The fall colors on display at Ravenswood Historic Siteare not only a sight to behold, this gorgeous venue holds great historic significance to the Tri-Valley. B in the late 1800’s as a summer home for the Buckley family, it features a charming victorian estate and one of the oldest vineyards planted in both California and the Livermore Valley Wine Country.
Sycamore Grove Park
Sycamore Grove Parkis a popular Livermore hotspot for walking, biking, and horseback riding, and one of our favorite spots to soak up fall colors in the Tri-Valley. This 775 acre park features a variety of wildlife while weaving through gorgeous oak trees, olive orchards, a creek, and vineyards.
