Directions
Start at the Arroyo Road Staging Area:From the parking area, head south to begin the East Shore Trail.
Cross Arroyo Valle Creek:Shortly after starting, you’ll cross a bridge over Arroyo Valle Creek, which drains the Del Valle Reservoir.
Ascend the Ridge:After the creek, the trail ascends approximately 450 feet to a ridge. This is the most strenuous part of the hike.
Reach the Overlook:At the ridge, there’s a bench offering expansive views of the valley and Lake Del Valle—a great spot for a rest.
Descend via Heron Bay Trail:From the overlook, turn right onto the Heron Bay Trail, which descends toward the lake and winds through patches of trees.
Rejoin East Shore Trail:After about 0.8 miles on Heron Bay Trail, it intersects with East Shore Trail. Turn left to begin a gradual ascent back up the ridge.
Return to Trailhead:Continue on East Shore Trail as it descends back to the Arroyo Road Staging Area, completing the loop.
Tips
Cell Phone Service: There is little to no cell phone service in Del Valle Regional Park.
Best Time to Hike:Spring, fall, or winter months offer moderate temperatures and vibrant scenery.
Wildlife:Keep an eye out for grazing cattle and local wildlife along the trail.
Trail Conditions:Wear sturdy footwear suitable for dirt and gravel paths.
Facilities:Restrooms and water are available at the staging area.
