Known as one of the safest regions in California, the Tri-Valley makes for a fantastic family vacation destination, featuring idyllic, kid-friendly communities, sprawling outdoor recreation spaces and parks, and a variety of family-centric activities. Visit interactive museums, immersive indoor play centers, kid-friendly wineries, and more. 

Whether you’re traveling with toddlers or your children are old enough to drive, the Tri-Valley is home to unforgettable experiences for all ages. Read below for various family-friendly activities and destinations paired with a nearby family-friendly restaurant

Indoor Play Places

  • Lost World Adventures is a massive family-fun center featuring play structures, arcade games, black light mini-golf, five climbing walls, a ropes course and mini bowling. If that’s not enough, it’s also home to a 7,000 square foot multi-level laser tag arena and a ninja agility course. More Info

Water Fun & Splash Pads

  • The Dublin Wave is the Tri-Valley’s premier aquatic recreational center, full of fun activities like a water slide tower, swimming and sport pools, and a kid-friendly water playground. Post up at one of their shaded picnic tables or rent a poolside cabana or loungers. More Info

Museums

  • The Blackhawk Museum, located in Danville, consists of five world-class galleries all housed under one roof. While its mostly known for its rotating car collection featuring rare and historically significant automobiles, it’s also home to the award-winning Spirit of the Old West gallery, the World of Nature gallery (pictured above), the Into China gallery, and the Art of Africa gallery. While the entire museum is kid-friendly, the completely immersive World of Nature gallery is especially popular amongst younger crowds. More Info →
  • Downtown Danville’s Museum of San Ramon Valley is located in a historic 1891 train depot and offers a glimpse into the rich history of the San Ramon Valley. Through rotating exhibits, artifacts, and engaging programs, the museum highlights the region’s railroad heritage, agricultural roots, and local stories—from Native American life to modern development.

Kid-Friendly Wineries

If you’re looking for wineries with a large lawn and safe space for your kids to play while you enjoy a glass of wine, take a peek at the following options below.  

  • Boa Ventura de Caires Winery
    Located in the southeast corner of Livermore Valley Wine Country, this rustic, five acre property features a large barn tasting room, two lawn tasting areas, a tire swing, and chickens!  
  • McGrail Vineyards and Winery
    The large front lawn at McGrail Vineyards is the perfect spot for family picnics, featuring gorgeous views of surrounding vineyards, two bocce ball courts, and the green light to bring your own umbrellas, tents, and food.

Outdoor Activities

  • Rock City is located in Mount Diablo State Park, just a short drive from the South Entrance Gate. This “park within a park” features ancient wind caves, amazing views of the surrounding foothills, and viewable fossils in stoney outcrops. Follow the “Trail through Time” to view some of the area’s most interesting rock formations and crawl through this natural playground of tunnels and caves. There are steep drop offs and slippery areas within Rock City, be sure to wear appropriate footwear and keep smaller children with you at all times. 
  • Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore home to a 5-mile long lake with two swimming beaches and plenty of shaded lawn space to picnic on. Stop by their visitors center which features interactive exhibits on the park’s natural and cultural heritage, hosted by knowledgeable park rangers and volunteers. Open weekends and holidays.

Kid-Friendly Art Studios

  • Créatif Art Studio
    This kid-friendly space combines art and technology in a futuristic approach to art making. Work with a variety of mediums including canvas, pottery, ceramic, unfinished wood, and even rocks! More Info →
  • Hawaii Fluid Art
    Locations in both Danville and Pleasanton, offers a vibrant, hands-on experience where guests of all ages can create mesmerizing acrylic pour paintings.

Tri-Valley Ice Cream Trail

The Tri-Valley Ice Cream Trail is a year-round activity that rewards trailblazers who visit at least five participating ice cream shops with their very own ice cream scooper to use at home. Sign up for our free mobile pass to keep track of your progress and earn points with each visit to an ice creamery. A few participating shops include:

  • Lottie’s Creamery
    Expect a menu of fresh, small-batch ice creams and cookies in a family-friendly setting. Ginger Green Tea, Vanilla Salted Almond Toffee, and Mint Fudge Cookie are just a few fan-favorite flavors.
  • Meadowlark Dairy
    This Downtown Pleasanton staple is also California’s oldest certified dairy. Enjoy classic and unique flavors of house-made ice cream served in what’s affectionately referred to as “swirlies”.

Parks & Playgrounds

The Tri-Valley is home to several incredible parks located throughout out this family-centric region. Whether you’re looking for an all-abilities playground, unique, themed play structures or sprawling splash pads, you’re bound to find something that fits your children’s interests.

  • Imagine Playground
    This all-abilities playground located in Dublin was crafted to offer play structures and amenities accessible to individuals with various special needs.
  • Osage Station Park
    Named after a specific species of orange that used to grow on this property, Osage Station Park features a “old west” themed play structure complete with a kid-size train station. Plenty of lawn space for picnics and incredible views of Mount Diablo State Park.
